MAKING AMAL MONOBLOCS ROUND AGAIN
« on: 10.10. 2014 22:38 »
Let me start by saying, I can not remember whom to credit for this method, but boy does this method ever work.  !!!!  389 Monobloc, with the heads of 2 bolts in the mounting flange backwards, then put the carby in the vice  bolt heads on one jaw of the vice, intake side of carby on the other jaw of the vice. (soft jaws in the vice)  With carb top off, but just with slide inside up at almost the top, at full throttle position. Now just squeeze the carb in vice until the slide drops just from the weight of itself.  I started out being able to get .008 thousandths feeler gauge in one side, between the carb body and the slide.  That is too much air getting past. When the body was round again and the slide working perfectly and easily, could only get about .004 thousandths feeler gauge in there.  The bike has never Idled better, or run better through all of the ranges of the carby.  Thanks very much to whom ever posted this method of making it round again.

I was just telling Musky the other day that my carb is worn so bad
that the slide is paper thin one side & a couple mm the other.
I purchased a new 3&1/2 cutaway slide, but it jams in the bore..
Hmmmmm..   *idea* That method of re rounding the carb may be just what is needed with mine..?

With my luck I'd over do it & crack the alloy    *pull hair out*  & be up for a new carb..

Thanks for posting..  *wink2*
