no choke

plugs seem a bit sooty mixture screw 2 1/2 turns out to get it to run even but you can turn screw a turn either way and it don't make any difference, also don't need choke to start it not had a look at the size of the jet yet. just don't think its right not using the choke ?

My bike, when it was assembled didn't have a choke and started fine. That's how it's going back together. I believe many of our members' bikes don't have chokes. When you tickle, you get roughly the same affect as choking. That is, excess fuel burbles up past the needle, increasing the ratio of fuel to air. I think you might need a new mixture screw.

I will wait to be soundly corrected here, because I'm no carburetor expert, but my thinking is that just getting the bike started doesn't have much to do with having the right jets. Running smoothly and continuously, yes. Your problem sounds a lot like spark. How are things on that front?

Pilot circuit needs a cleanout. I'd remove carb and dismantle to give a good cleanout. Note jet/needle/slide sizes. Replace any O rings (is there one on the air screw?). Then assemble and check float height.

Had this on my last project, screw has some effect then nothing else happens, damn my memory not sure which way it was but suspect the jet was to small , others might like to help me out ???
anyway whatever way it was changing the jet cured it
