Help with v5
« on: 06.10. 2013 20:54 »
My dad has luckily saved lots of paperwork history for the a10 including this v5 (see below photo). Anyone know if this is still valid? Bike hasnt seen the road for at least 25 years. Is it best to get my dad to apply for a new v5 document (whats involved ) before transfering it to my name? Anyone know whats best to do in this situation?
thanks for any help
alex

Go onto the DVLA website and check whether the vehicle details are still on record. They probably will be.
If so you should be OK.

hi,
i was in the same situation,so i filled in the change of keeper in my name and address and sent off the old style v5.a few weeks later got the new one. This was great until i tried to get a tax disk......the new v5 still had tax class as "bicycle" and the post office wanted to charge £70 odd pound for road tax!.....so off to local dvla office who gave me a free tax disk and sent off my v5 for alteration.Just got the lastest v5 with "historic" tax class........Although i think you will have to it all via post as i think all local dvla offices will be shut by mid october

good luck Rob

Hi Alex,

I agree with the advice given on here but for peace of mind I would suggest that you photocopied everything you send to DVLA just in case your package gets lost somewhere down the line.  These things do happen!!

Thanks for the replies. After reading these I rang dvla this morning and they confirmed that this v5 is still valid. Asked about change of taxation class and after I receive a new v5 it will need to be sent off again with a v10 form along with insurance and mot apparently. Bonkers
