Hi again, might sound a bit stupid but how do you remove the jet block from a monoblock carb,
I've removed everything and gave the bottom of the jet block a few gentle taps but it doesn't seem to want to budge. Just thought I'd check on here before I got to heavy with it. Cheers fella's, Chicago

Chicago, at risk of being called a butcher, and if you havent got many tools like a press, warm carb body in hot water, hold in vise, then use a correcctly sized punch with wood/cloth/other softener and firm solid vertical blows with hammer. This works effectively, but I would love to know about the correct method from others. gav.

Cheers gavinoz, I'll give it a go, I'm really keen to remove the jet block as it looks like its never been removed/cleaned, and I have a feeling the paper gasket at the bottom is probably knackerd. Nice one fella, all the best, Chicago.

Hi there bill, cheers fella, yep the little short silver screw next to the airscrew. Could I use a heat gun instead of hot water or would this be too harsh. All the best bill, chicago

Chicago i guess a heat gun is pretty mild? I worry to use too much force of any kind on carb alloy. But hey im just a worrier, give it a go!!  gav

Don't know what sort of alloy carbs are made of, but Dinky/Corgi toys are made of Mazak, and  they definitely will melt if you use one of those fancy hairdrier-like paint strippers on them.
I'd agree with the suggestion of hot water.
The hex head on the jet holder can be held in a vice (or a spanner of the correct size can be held in vice)giving you 2 hands free to turn the carb. ...maybe a better idea than putting a carb body in a vice?

Some heat guns are not that mild but shouldn't melt your carb, however keep the heat even all around the body, a bit of dowel that's a good fit inside the carb should help keep it from distorting and when it goes a bit slacker you'll know the time is right

...sorry just realised I was talking about removing the main jet holder rather than the jet block.

Cheers fella's, managed it in the end without the use of the heat gun  ;). Tell you what though, I'm glad I decided to completely strip and clean the carb this time, when I removed the jet block and had a look down the carb there was what looked like 10 years of compacted road dust where the slide sits, so the slide prob never seated right all the time I've had it, all the airways seemed not to bad but cleaned everything out and blew compressed air though it all.
I decided to head down to see brian at lightning spares to treat the carb to a new needle, needle jet, inlet oring seal, while I was there Brian had a quick look at the carb and said the slides a bit worn, so a re-sleeves prob on the cards soon.
Anyway, put the carb back on, pulled the petrol tap, no leaks from the carb, good(confidence starting to rise) went to start it and took ages to start and ran like crap. Confidence then hit the floor and Panic started to set in a bit with the words should have left well alone ringing in my ears. Anyway after her in doors came out to investigate what the banging noise was (massive backfire). I had time to calm down and think about it. So off came the jet holder to re-check, new seal and back on. Checked the leads and the left plug cap was only sat on the plug (me, forgot to push back on properly) I then felt the exhausted and the right one was hot and the left one warm. Took the plug out and soaking wet. So left for half an hour, put new plug in and started, and definitely ticking over more evenly and revving felt a bit more crisp than it did.
