don't see the need to change tyres for 30+ years .\. give the impression that SM's are rubbish, and indeed those old ones are.
yes, old compound drying out > hard and slippy. OK for a short stroll on a sunny day, but can be lethal in other conditions.

Modern ones use a different carcass and are rounded just like any other modern tyre

Well my old Flash is up for a new rear, it passed MOT OK but there is perishing (is that a word) around the tyre next to the rim, MOT man said it was just on the surface and cosmetic but it's one of those things that you know is there and will have me wondering every time I feel a twitch on a corner.
So I'll give the new SM a look Andy

(did I just tell a bloke I'm looking at S&M) *eek*
All the best - Bill
1961 Flash - stock, reliable, steady, fantastic for shopping
1959 Rocket Gold Flash - blinged and tarted up  would have seizure if taken to  Tesco

Muskrat,
I like that bike of yours, built to a purpose.
There is a couple of things that interest me.
That seat looks comfy. What is it?
What size tyres are on the bike? Front and rear look to be about the same.
Can you post a close-up pic of the way you have the carby set-up. (lift the young fella's leg up a bit)
cheers

 B-Bill,

a Dunlop type of the day (yep I forgotten the number it wasn't K70 I know)

Dunlop Gold Seal comes to mind, but maybe my imagination, K65 or something...???

Likely of little interest or use to most who like original, but I'm real happy with my Metzler Enduros (1 & 11- F/R), only thing is they only come in 3 sizes -: 3.0 x 21.51"(F) & 4.0 x 18.64"(R) ............(or 17" I think for something like Motard?), so it needs rim changes, but I needed rims anyway so no probs., and I wanted these tyres after having them on my XT up 'n down the mountain and more everyday...nice round profiles, just roll around the corners..but would totally change the look of the bikes..

  cheers, duTch
