Well, it's back !
« on: 02.02. 2013 19:13 »
Forum back online after the big move, must probably just bite the bullet (not the dust, yet) and let it goo 'live', then (try to) fix whatever happens along the way.

This is (should be...) the complete forum up until 31 january.

There were 2 or 3 messages posted on the test forum that the poster may want to see here, if so, please PM me about how best to do it.

Anything missing or not working, post in this thread.
Thanks

And let me tell you, it's been one hell of a week. Did definitely not know what I was up against.
And won't claim victory yet.

Thanks for patience and support.

And trying a login as a10gf, all well.

And I sometimes see 50 google bots trawling the place for content, very good sign regarding the new domain redirect process.

Hi Erling,

I would also like to offer my congratulations and thank you for all your hard work.

It really is appreciated because without this forum there will be so many more bemused A7 and A10 owners with part finished projects in their sheds compared to those of us who are out on the road enjoying the fruits of our newly aquired and combined knowledge.

Keep up the good work.

Beezageezauk.

Thanks, highly appreciated.

For someone working with servers, ftp, sql databases etc etc on a daily basis a move like this is surely a piece of cake. But when doing this 1st time it was  ...a crazy job (and nobody I even remotely know I could ask for directions) + the always looming possibility of making a total mess, configurations, backups or file transfers failing unexpectedly and loosing everything etc. But made a plan which worked. Over the cliff now, anything happening from now on would be the webhost company's fault.

Let's hope it stays stable and fast (the next few weeks will be the test), and the forum continues to be of use to members and visitors.

And must say I love seeing this message (see attachment) when finally running the forum self-test program:

Well done. I know this can be a lot of work and must be very hard and worrying for someone without the backup of people who know these systems inside out.

I'm struggling - HELP !
Probably me doing something stupid but - I have logged in to the new site with my username and password, forever as time scale
I usually look for all unread posts but am getting zero as result.
Then if I leave the site I am having to log in again despite entering "forever" as the time period.

Perhaps you could PM me with any assistance message.

Thanks

Pete

....I have logged in to the new site with my username and password, forever as time scale ....

1st of all, clear your browser history, cookies and all else. I suspect a cookie problem on the pc, and\or your browser has some old stuff saved, pointing to the old domain (and thus tries to apply the 'forever' etc to a non-existing web address). For a complete clean, I highly recommend using http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner . It's a very safe program with 10's of millions of users. Run it now and then.

About the 'forever login', I have never used it so don't know if it actually works or not. I just save the username\password in the browser and log in with one click.

The 'Show unread posts since last visit' & 'Show new replies to your posts' works fine on the forum side.

Thanks, appreciated. Looks stable, and the hoster seems to do the job on it's side.

With my lack of savvy re computers I'd can't visulise the amount of hard work to get this forum back up and running ,just very grateful for your expertise in doing so best wishes BobH ps a little problem initially getting logged back in but that I think was more down to my gas powered PC than the forum !! now fine and very quick.

felt like the pc\internet counterpart of the Stalingrad battle lol

a little problem initially getting logged back in
I think such occurrences are due to old content (cache\cookies\history\passwords) which is locally stored in the pc.
Will get better over time (as you experienced), but try flushing the browser cache (example in IE: Tools > Safety > Delete browsing history).

Excellent news. Thanks.
