Yes, the possibility of the crankase bolt being too long is exactly what I was going to say! ;) *smile* I wonder what you or others (Muskrat?) might think of just drilling a hole at the end of the crack to stop the crack from growing. Being more to the side wall of the skirt, I would think it wouldn't present a problem, particularly if it had a little chamfer. All that said, I've never actually had to try such a thing, so others (again) may want to chime in.

 That would be the way to do it normally Richard but as the barrels have been sleeved it has got two cracks close to the cutout. It has also been deformed so will need to be relieved at that area, weakening even more. If it were mine I'd cut/grind that section out so it would end up looking like the cut out in A10 barrels.

Grinding that section out would be the safest bet. Starting with the crack take out the piece between there and the semicircular cutout  Make sure there are no sharp edges and that the remaining metal is not proud, if so lightly stone it back.  This is only my thoughts make sure you have all your options before choosing what to do.  Best of luck.  Dave.

Oh and round any corners of your cutout, rightangle corners promote cracks
