Gold Star Twin?
« on: 17.12. 2012 19:07 »
Hello again, as some of you have replied to my posts know I've been planning to either buy or build up for myself an RGS replica but on one of my now regular browses of ebay I saw an advertising poster from 1963 for a Gold Star Twin....essentially an RGS but with short fork shrouds with headlight ears, twin pipes, bars mounted off the yoke rather than clip-ons and a gold and red tank colour scheme. I'd never heard of it til now, think maybe it was probably for export only but wondering if anyone knows where any good pictures could be found? Since I started my search there seem to be RGS replicas everywhere and I'd like something just a little bit different!

Hello unclerob,

I found some pics, these are from 1963 U.S. brochures. I have copied these from ebay, the quality is not the best. I hope these will help You. I think the last picture is from U.K. brochure.

G'day Uncle,
The Gold Star Twin is the U.S. version of the RGS.
The colour is, I think, Flamboyant Red and is a Candyapple finish.
The RGSs delivered to Australia were home market types which have the headlight as described but were silver and had siamese pipes.

Thanks Markku! Very interested in a couple of those pics, looks like it was available with a 2 gallon tank? And hadn't been able to decide from the pics I had whether the oil tank and toolbox were red or black. I'm fairly sure it wasn't used on any other A10 but I've just had a look at a paint database and apparently a colour was used on 1969 Bantams called flambouyant red candy, guessing its the same so have ordered an aerosol for a try out....thanks!!

Uncle,
You need a base for candy paints. The A10 was supposedly gold.

Hi Trev, thanks, I know, the paint people told me it should be silver though! I'm only painting a spare oil tank and toolbox with aerosols just to see how it looks....looking for something to do over xmas!!
