Speedometer drive removal / fitting query ?
« on: 30.10. 2012 20:44 »
The speedo drive in My gearbox is wearing out & I have a new one fitted in a spare outer cover .
I would like to remove this drive & fit it into My good outer cover .
Has Anyone any experience in this procedure please ?

I cant find any locating dowel , etc so I imagine heat may be required ?

Thank all .

Steve,
There is a screw through the outer cover with a reduced diameter which locates the drive. It has to be removed first.
I remove the drive by slipping a sleeve or washers over the thread and tighten the nut, progressively adding washers as the drive is withdrawn.

Thanks Trev ,
I will try that later ...was concerned regarding using heat in case there may be an oil seal around the drive ?

Trev ,
Tried the method advised by Yourself without using heat ..the drive is loose enough but spins in the case when I tighten the nut with the applied washers , My question now is would I be better applying heat & if so how much is enough ? also would I be able to get enough with a propane torch ?

Thanks in advance ,
Steve ..

If it was me, Steve, I would make an adapter for my sliding hammer and gently impact it out.
Can you fit the nut and hold it in a vice and tap the cover off?
