That's it for me this year :(
« on: 15.10. 2012 00:01 »
Well, it's that time of year for me when I tuck them up in the shed and sort out what needs doing, ready for next year. This is the first year, in the last 11, that I've taken the A10 out on the road and I'd like to thank the members of the Forum for helping me to do this. As you can see by the photo, my other bike is  a 'sports' bike, but there's no way you can compare the two. The BSA is smooth as silk and a real comfort to ride, whilst the Velo' needs a good thrashing and is definitely a little less comfortable. So, thanks to all for helping me with the A10 and no doubt I'll be back with more 'technical' questions next year.

Cheers mates

I agree entirely with what you say re comparing the Velo and A10. I much prefer the BSA to the Venom which preceded it in my shed. And despite what Velo enthusiasts may say I think the A10 handles better as well as being a shade quicker - and much more usable generally. Its only flaw is that it's a bit heavier.

I SORN my Sportster and Zed from the end of this month and they get wrapped up at the back of the car port. But that's because I'm not prepared to cover the load of VED all year around. The older (historic) stuff remains road legal throughout and will come out for a run when there's no suggestion of salt about.

Good one cotterpinkid, hope you get a full season on her next year. I don't think I could live anywhere that I can't ride all year round. We're lucky buggers down here.

im hoping i can get my bike back together in time for a quick last spin before the weather in manchester starts getting really stupid. i was hoping to have my bike in the house over winter but i think it might have to stay in the garrage, i was thinking of spraying it all over with used engine oil in order to protect it over the winter months.

G'day chicago, don't think used engine oil would be safe for the painted or rubber bits. I have used CRC longlife and was told once a lanolin spray works well.

Plus used engine oil has lots of nasty stuff in it - acids from the combustion etc. I'd steer clear myself.

I think I made a reference to it in the past, but when I played in concrete, one of the guys put us on to using cooking oil spray stuff(cheapo home brand stuff) to stop rust on the hand tools and stop the mud from sticking worked a treat, can't see why it wouldn't work the same, with reservation of use on the rubber, but may be ok?
 Cheers, duTch

You are all mad!!!

Throw the wife in the garage and take the bike to bed!

Tell her that at least the bike will keep it's value over the years, and that's more than she will.   *smile*

Think that will work?
