Longstroke Trainee Ben
« on: 14.07. 2012 11:11 »
Hi Guys, Thankyou for your welcoming response's, It's most gratifying. Here is the promised image of my assembled A7 Longstroke and a few comments on the state of it, I downloaded the resizing software on your recomendation and it works well.  Bike came with a very clapped out 389 carb, so i bought a JRC unit for half the cost of a reconditioned Amal. It preforms very well but is very sensitive to grit!! In my enthusiasim to start the motor i thought cleaning out the tank would suffice, I learnt the hard way to install an inline filter and be more fastidious with the flushing.
I had also acquired a secondhand magneto which, after much grief and puffing, turned out to need reconditioning. I have now got a DVR 6V setup that is performing well so far. I have mounted it inside the original air filter housing and now need to figure out an alternative filter for the carb, there is not much space. I never had a British bike as a "youf" but always yearned for that oh so distinctive sound of the twin. The sensation i felt when it first fired up was indescribable, after all the effort. Well i blurted out to the wife, in my blissfill state, that it was better then the proverbial. I suspect i'm doomed *conf*condemned to never understand why this did not go down very well. Never the less they love it when their men can fix things for them ,so mine is very supportive of my mechanical endeavours. Ben
