Hi all. I have just found out that the tank I have for my very late A7 star-Twin project (pearlescant green) is the wrong one. The tank I need should have recesses to suit the large 4" round plastic badges and have the rear mouting tubes to suit the rubber bush/top hat spacers. If any one has one or knows the whereabouts of one, please drop me a message, any leads or info welcome. Thanks, Peter

Hi Goldy. Thanks for your suggestion, I was a bit surprised to hear that C & D had them but contacted them anyway. The reply states that they don't do any 'plunger' tanks only swinging arm types. I'll keep looking. Thanks anyway. Peter

Be careful "B" plunger tanks are different.

Thanks Wilco. I was just about to thank jflig for his suggestion but mention that these tanks are for a 'B' series which are quite different to an 'A' series tank including the base pressing, the rear mountings single outlet etc etc.  On the Star-Twin tank question, I'm still not totally convinced that the correct tank does have a recess for the badge, I thought that the 4" round plastic badge was just fitted onto the surface of the side panel  with two 6BA screws. But recently I have been assured by a very knowledgable and experienced chap that they did have a recess and used the clip fitting like on the swinging arm bikes as he has had a tank like this!  I do wonder if hes getting mixed up with the late standard A7 tank that did have a recess but only for the 3" badge. If any owners of 1953/54 Star-Twins could confirm this it would be much appreciated. Regards, Peter

I dont know if this will help or make things even more confusing.

Here are a couple of scans out of the parts book. Pic one is from the 1949-1953 book and pic 2 from the 1954-1957 book.

The 53' book lists eight different tanks for the A series !!!!! As far as I can work out the 53' Star Twin had the plastic badges but they screwed onto the tank with no recesses. 54' onwards had recesses in the tank with the plastic badges.

So if your bike is 53' and the plastic badges fit onto the tank then I think you have the correct tank, maybe  *eek*

Hi Brian. Thanks for the images. Now, I may be proven wrong but I believe that the tank style shown in the 2nd image was only for the 1954 standard A7 which had the 3" plastic badges, and that the 'Star-Twin tank was carried over from 1953,  perhaps you could check the part number listing for me. Why BSA chose to fit a unique tank on the standard A7 plunger for 1954 only  doesn't seem very cost effective. My bike is a 1954 model year although it was despatched from the factory during november 1953 Thanks, Peter

BSA also had these badges for just one year in 1953 as well. I think they look really nice. They have that Royal Enfield look about them...

Peter the 53' book gives the pt no as 67-8104 which is the same number as the 54' book. The 54' book gives a different number for the standard A7 tank.

By what I can make out from it all I think you are right, I think the 53' and 54' Star Twins had the same tank with plastic badges that screwed on without the recesses.

Its very confusing, I've added a scan from the 53' book. You can see there are no less than eight different tanks.
