going $ for an A10 alloy head

hey Gents
 ok so be tossing the idea of collecting an alloy head for my a10 to maybe alloy me a few more ponies to make driving on la freeways a bit less stressful when rebuild time comes (a ways off i'll admit). what kinda $ would one expect for a used but in ok condition (no broken fins etc). Reason i'm asking is one i was following on flea bay went for over $450 usd recently and that seems outrageous (was just a used head- not rebuilt etc) - does that seems reasonable or was it a victum of fleabay frenzy?

I paid ?200 plus postage for an alloy 650 head that needed a couple of small welds and a few helicoils, i doubt you will find an alloy head in perfect condition , they are all 50 years old now and the aluminium in them is good but soft.

Hi Mike, i agree with Bonny over here in the UK they are getting stupid money, poeple are putting trash on e-bay and idiots are bidding anything half decent goe's for crazy cash ,you should see the activity with just minutes to go ,also they are trying to sell R/R as S?R and vice versa even trying to pass A7SS AS A10, why oh why doesn't someone start casting them again over to SRM again ,hope they are monitoring this post to asscertain levels of potential business,regards BobH

I'm not sure how much benefit you would feel from an alloy head on the freeway. Iron heads are certainly more relaxing to listen to on a long ride.
Gearing may be something to consider instead.

 yes this is a thought too  -  was think maybe a slight increase in compression and gearing would be the best to still have a reliable A10- not sure to what degree my iron head would allow an increase in CR without complaining - of course if it going to be $400-500 for a head that need to be rebuild, the iron head will stay

G'day Mike,
               cooler running would be one of the benefits as well as bigger valves. Looking at your weather chart there is much the same as here so would be better at highway running.
