Rear wheel problems!
« on: 02.03. 2008 17:08 »
I have just fitted the rear wheel again on my A7, but, now the rear wheel hardly spin around. I have fitted the rear wheel spindel and the washer on the outside.
But I still have one washer left, where does that fit? Anyone know that?
The washer is the same size as the one on the right side of the spindel.
When I took off the rear wheel, I left the sprocket on the bike (so I didn`t disturb the final drive).

Anyone have any idea where the washer fit?

Regards from Norway.

H(e)i, the spare parts catalog will show all the parts, and in what order they should be fitted. If you do not have it, try ordering it from f.ex. http://www.classic-motorcycles.no
Maybe you have omitted some spacer, and the inner race of a bearing is tightened hard against it's outer race? Try loosening the main nut and see if it spins. Someone here who knows the swingarm rear might help.

Hi BMH - you do need a picture I think! There is one in the BSA Handbooks for the A7 and A10, showing the washers and spacers and spindles and nuts and everything for the swinging arm frames, and they are available from here so you can look . . . BUT I am a computer imbecile and can not find the link to give it you directly . . . luckily most folk here are a lot smarter and I bet someone can point you straight there
I think what has happened is that the washer or spacer you have left over goes on the spindle between the right hand swinging arm fork and the wheel. Not having it there is, I think, squeezing the wheel bearings (which is bad!). Groily

The owner manuals now available in 'Good Links':

Yes, some good rear hub info in the 59 manual.
