WANTED A10 Petrol Tank (1950 rigid)
« on: 13.03. 2016 14:38 »
Seeking out a petrol tank for my A10 Golden Flash 1950 - rigid framed.
The tank on this bike, is different from that used on later models.
It takes the pressed tin winged 'golden flash' badges. (Not the round badges or the pear shaped badges)
It is different from the b or m series tank.
Any condition considered.
thank you
Neil

It also should have slots at the back not the rings

This one is for sale here in Holland at the moment. Not sure if this is the type of tank you're looking for.

It also should have slots at the back not the rings

The slotted tanks are usually A7. The (smaller) A7 tank was also mounted on early A10's but only for the home market. Export models had a bigger tank. From 1953 The A10 tank had the rear lugs (rings) with rubber insert
And watch out what you buy, because a rigid or plunger A7 export model tank looks similar but won't fit an A10 (DAMHIK)
The underside of an A10 tank has a much deeper recess to make room for the higher cylinder.

Early A10 tanks had slots at the back and front. The ring type came out at the back in 1953 with the rubbers. Long stroke A7 tanks had bolt hole at the front and back. Early short stroke A7 tanks had bolt hole at the front and slot at the back. There is a variation with the angle of the petrol taps on A7 tanks.
That tank in the pic looks like an A7 to me but Golden Flash badges wont fit on an A7 tank. I cant quite see if the rear screw is in the GF badge. Maybe someone has screwed the front screw in tight but just used silastic at the back and around the edges to hold the badge on. I would check the other pics of the tank before buying it as Morris says you can't put an A7 tank on and A10.

Hi Neil I have several of those tanks spare in varying conditions I buy them whenever I see them for sale but shipping cost to UK is far to expensive as I'm in Australia. The tank you want should be slots at the front and back if you stick to that you are on the right track because none of the other tanks have that.

Hi All,
If you are patient surface mail from Australia to Europe is not that bad
It takes about 10 weeks
I recently got a large box containing a rear  mudguard and tool boxes from Australia for AU$ 93
(not BSA but Chater Lea *smile* *smile*)
