clutch alignment

Just putting my new 4 spring lyford classics clutch on and seem to have an alignment issue with the engine sprocket  On the crank, I have a spacer ( that fits in the oil seal ) , 50 thou of shims,the top hat splined  sleeve and then the sprocket.On the mainshaft I have put the woodruf key in, then tappped the cutch centre on with a copper mallet to seat it on the taper. If I now push the clutch basket hard against the centre and straight edge between the engine sprocket and clutch teeth they are way out of line ie. about  the width of the teeth!
Guess Im doing somthing stupid please tell me what? Ive measured the gap between the back of the basket and the chaincase and it looks too big at about 540 thou.

Thanks for that, i read all the way through the article and i think its exactly the same problem ie i have the sleeve with the thinner flange. so can i turn up a spacer to fit behind (and has it got to be hardened) or should i get the right one if so what do i ask for?
