Wanted - alloy rear brake plate for '61 Flash
« on: 31.08. 2010 21:57 »
I've had a stupid  event where my (plain) alloy brake plate slipped while I was trying to get the rear wheel back in.. Unfortunately the rear of the bike was hanging over the garage pit & thus it dropped 3 feet onto it's edge on the hard concrete base.. Now badly out of shape & split..

Plain alloy preferred although a black painted one will do (I'll remove the paint). Bare plate will be fine, I think they were similar between 1958 & 1962...

Thanks,
Adrian

Adrian,
              They are similar but different.

Trev,
damn, that's all I need as this is going to hold me up getting this thing back on the road!! Thanks for the warning though... As a matter of interest are the plain alloy ones diferent from painted for the same year or did they vary from year to year??

Thanks,
Adrian

Hi Adrian,

As Trev mentions there are two very similar brake rear plates.  The earlier one has a cast lug that is threaded and takes the cable adjuster.  The later one (the one you need) doesn't have this cast lug and the cable adjuster goes through the plate anchor bolt.  The part number is 42-6357.

FYI....when BSA changed the rear brake plate they also changed the brake anchor and the rear brake cable.  Again there is not much difference in appearance but these items won't interchange so if you need a replacement cable at any time make sure you get the later one.  Part number 42-7042.

Adrian,
The early A65 plate is almost the same as the late A10 one. The difference being a small hole drilled for the return spring.

Thanks Trev & Beezageeza,
Mine is 42-6357 , found the part number yesterday...
I'll scan the Auction sites, & if I have to wait that long there's the VMCC jumble in Shepton at the beginning of October.. There's also a guy the other side of Bristol who (if he's still doing it) is great with alloy so I might be able to get mine repaired..

Am hoping for a quicker fix though - useful to know that the A65 could be used for a while..

Thanks again for all your help,

Adrian

I have got this one if it's any good to you. I replaced this with one off Ebay as it has a small piece broken off the edge - you can see the damage on Plate4 - in actual fact unless you know it's there I doubt it's noticeable. It is the correct part number 42-6357.

Let me know it you want it - Pgray(at)sheffsaws.com
