Removing speedo drive

How do I remove the speedo drive from my 51 A10 gearbox.Have removed the outer cover but can't see what is holding it in place.  Have checked Haymes manual & Bsa twins restoration without luck so am now at a dead end.  What can't I see? I'm sure its simple!!

G'day Russ,
                   there is a screw in the outer cover that holds it in place. Bottom left of picture. This and 50 years is all that holds it. Once it's removed the drive should come out, it might take some twisting and prodding.

You were right.  50 years of crud is all that is holding it. I'm now waiting for the crc to do its job before I continue to proceed with the hammer!!!
Before attempting to strip this gearbox I was considering soaking it in Diesel to help free it up.  Is this a good or bad idea?  I'm thinking it might affect the cases and they may not clean up.  Any suggestions gratefully received.

I use diesel in my parts washer, not sure of the long term affects.

I can get the speedo drive to move but it won't come all the way out.  Was thinking of heating up the gearbox outer cover with the hope that the brass speedo drive will then fall out.  Not allowed to use the oven but thought the barbie with the hood closed would do the job.  Has anyone tried this.

            You could try fitting an old cable nut onto the thread and hold it in a vice. Tap the cover off with a soft hammer.
If you need to make a nut, the thread is 1/2" 26 TPI.

I'll give it a go.  Am taking it to work tomorrow to wash it in our hot chemical washer so will get the boys in the workshop to try your suggestion.
