Dynamo Chain Grease?

Dear All,
After lots of interruptions and unexpected tasks the A10 is about to start the "re-assembly" stage!.. I'm starting with the easy bits and thus replacing the timing side gasket etc..
As you may recall the previous owner had a thing about grease, too much of it everywhere (I even found more than expected in the gearbox , although there was oil as well. Unlike the primary case that just had grease......)

I remember someone saying that he was actually correct about the dynamo chain... Although the chain passed through a tunnel in the grease before I think only a small amount is actually required.. Being lazy I propose to use what I already have, probably general purpose high metling stuff like LM or its equivalent. I have some MS3 from car days but don't imagine that is suitable.

Any recommendations for the right type here?

yep fill it with grease ! and have fun tightening it up ! it a pain as the chain always over tightens so you have to start with it a bit slack and try.

It is only a small chain which is only lightly loaded, so just give a coating of grease, no need to go mad with it.

Am giving it a good dose of standard motorcycle chain lube.

Low melt grease, oft called "liquid grease" is what should go in there.
Failing that you can use lanolin grease, just plug your nose first as it smells like, well, dead sheep.
I used to use old Duckhams Chaingrease from the tins that you melted your chain into but that has become a bit rare down here now as the "lazy sprays" have dominated the market.

Many thanks.. I'll try & get the proper stuff, otherwise I'll use a combination of chain lube & a bit of grease for good measure!

Liquid grease is available, they use it in farm machines (power harrows) but how are you going to get it to stay in there while you put the cover on?

Put it in the fridge or an hour or so before you do the assembly if it is the same stuff that we get .

I use PJ1 Chain Lube, same as for the rear chain. Works just fine.
