276 Float height

In common with other members of the forum, I've been having some problems with my 276 leaking. It is a new body with an old float bowl (RH), bottom feed, all new gaskets, but it just pours out of the "overflow" hole on the carb body. I've tried various float heights to no avail. Does anybody know what the float height is meant to be, i.e how far down the needle the clamp sits, so at least I've got a marker to start from. All advice gratefully received!

There should be a notch in the needle that the clip hooks into.  Are you sure it's the float height and not simply the needle leaking?  Have you lapped the needle into its seat?

If your needle are seat are worn and you cant get it to seal by lapping.new parts are available from Surrey Cycles.
He can probably tell you what your float height is supposed to be as well.

Also remember that bike must sit vertical for this type of carb. On side stand with tap open it will leak as the float has to 'float' vertically in chamber.

G'day Mike, Welcome to the forum.
                                               Also make sure the float floats. Obvious I know, but a tiny pin hole will not take long to let in fuel.
 Alex, obvious it's the back wheel. A's can't do stoppies with std brakes and forks.  *smile*

Thanks for suggestions. If you look carefully in the right light there is a slight groove. On locating the float here it seemed to be alright (on centrestand). On refitting the cap, the problem reappeared, so I'm going to take the whole lot off and lap it in both ends, see if that works :! I have been on here before with a wet sumping problem, but I don't know if that's fixed until I can stop the petrol pouring all over the mag! Also run a resto business, so have to fit in A10 stuff around everything else, so half day jobs stretch on for months ;)
