Of course, the good news here is that it seems your Rusty will pull through. In 2008 our pug chewed at the outlet end of an extension cord and got her mouth across the 120VAC. On the scream from my wife "Mimi's been electrocuted!" I came running. Sure enough she was passed out and involuntarily shaking across the line.I pulled her off and, for lack of knowing anything else to do, started chest compressions. Thankfully she came out of it. So, shocked but not "electrocuted," but with a pretty gory burn at the corner of her mouth.  Having been through this I have some sense of how you must have felt. I hope all is now better.

Now I will play devil's advocate or ugly American. it would seem to me that your neighbor should bear legal responsibility for yours and Rusty's pain and suffering, not to mention medical expense. A ggod neighbor would have their insurance company handle this without any ill feelings on their part.

Clarification:

The "she" that was passed out and getting chest compressions was the dog, not my wife.

Hi Richard L
Yes the neighbour has done the right thing, taking us in twice in his four wheel drive to the vets with promise to do again should we have the need and is picking up the bill. "probably won't be a small one either".
Nice enough couple really (he was my foreman when I worked) but they do have a problem with that dog, it has bitten other dogs and we suspect several cats.
We have suggested it needs muzzled but whether they will or not who knows, other neighbours have grandkids that come and visit and take there dog for walks, have pointed this out to them so hope they take the message on board.
Glad Mimi got over it, dogs just do like to chew though.
Back to bikes I should get into the shed tomorrow, probably just to get it clean and tidy, been dumping stuff in there short term for a few weeks.
On reflection I think I spend more time tidying up the shed than I do fettling.

Bill - I hope your Rusty will recover very soon.

Reading this story reminded me of our cat Sylvester who had to be euthanized due to an incurable illness just a few days before Christmas 2008, pretty exactly 3 years after he had adopted us on New Year's eve. We still miss him, as he was such a good an well-behaved fellow, actually he had more of a dog than of a stubborn cat.

Richard - I hadn't assumed your wife was chewing on extension cords.
