1952 Golden Flash
« on: 15.11. 2009 11:08 »
Hi, I'm Mike from sunny (not today!) Devon. I've been riding for 30 odd years, all sorts, and recently bought a 1952 Golden Flash, which has been very thoroughly restored by the previous owner, but never registered. Luckily it's still wearing it's original plate, and the archived registration has just turned up, so I'm hoping I can retain that with the help of the BSAOC. It has a couple of little niggles to sort out, mostly the perennial wet sumping, which is more like a torrent *sad2* I won't bang on about it here as it's a technical matter. I've been very impressed with the level of knowledge and advice on here, and I'm sure being a member will make A10 ownership a lot smoother. I would post some pics but the resizer doesn't seem to want to play *conf*

Hello Mike... Good of you to join us, Indeed as Erling says.... you have a very fine looking bike. Likely you may well have read that to cure wet sumping is to ride the bike more, however, some will advise to fit a device of somesort. Just a note... Check that your not running too lean, the right pipe looks a bit coloured which may well suggest you need richening up a bit. Welcome to the forum!

Thanks for the greetings, I will be riding it more but it's not road registered at the mo! I think I may (fingers crossed) have sorted it. On removing the sump plate a considerable amount of oil was still dripping from the scavenge pipe. Poked around with a skewer and it stopped, so have left it overnight with a receptacle underneath to see what tomorrow brings. If it's started dripping again, I'd guess I'll have to have a look at the pump, though it is returning nicely. I don't fancy fitting a non-return valve, I put one my last bike (1944 M20) but bottled out and took it off. I'll check the mixture once I can get it to keep running for more than two minutes due to the plugs oiling up!

To Alan P, apparently I'm not allowed to send personal messages! Too new? Anyrate, I'm in Teignmouth, just up the road from you, I'm mostly out and about on the XJR1300 till the Flash is road legal, so If you see a tatty one of them with a black tank cover and a rack system on the back, that's me! I'm in Plymouth from time to time, and on Dartmoor quite often now the grockles have gone home (thats tourists for the benefit of you poor s..ouls who don't live in Devon!).
