New Member - 1960 BSA A10

Hi,

I've been left my late Fathers 1960 A10, will be popping over to the garage this weekend so will get some photo's posted shortly.

He purchased the bike some years ago, it was in bits so he slowly rebuilt it up in a Cafe Racer style (rekindling his younger days ), unfortunately he passed away suddenly last year.

I'm a biker but know nothing about bikes (that was my Fathers job) and keen to start using it so would be most grateful if someone could recommend a company or individual that could give the bike a good look over and service, I'm located in South Oxfordshire but am willing to travel a reasonable distance.

Welcome to the fold, i'm sure the boy's over there will help. I hope one day ( not TOO soon) one of my boys will do as you are. You will be proud as punch to tell others it's your fathers bike. Enjoy

First, condolences on the loss of your father. For me, it raises the question as to whether he was one of our members that we have, perhaps, lost track of. I have no doubt that many of us here are around the same age as your father, and that brings it home even more.

In any case, a hardy welcome to our friendly forum. People here are eager to help with any questions that arise and, boy, will they arise. Also, we hunger for photos of as yet unseen member bikes, and photos are always a help when trying to analyze some problem from afar.

I've taken a photo today, my other bikes were in the way and didn't have time to move the A10 out so it's a little dark.

                          What a beauty, it will certainly turn heads !! Dad must have been a cool dude. I would give my first born son for a tank like that. Do I see a '57 rear hub there ? I love it.

Could be muskrat, I won't know, how can you tell?

This is why I would like the bike looked over to tell me what is what...

There's a big dial on top of the forks which has me puzzled, some kind of steering damper maybe?

Exactly. The damping keeps the forks from shuddering at high speed and, in my opinion, allows the rider a choice of feel in the turns.

G'day Ronnie,
                  Does the rear drum have a square bit opposite the brake spindle ? This is used to adjust the normally fixed end of the brake shoes. Only found on '56 & '57 models.
