BSA A10 Kickstart Ratchet Bush
« on: 08.12. 2024 17:58 »
My gearbox is in pieces, don’t have the kickstart ratchet bush and purchased one from someone I haven’t used before as it was in stock.

However, want to check with the experts

Is the bush suppose to be rough on the inside?
If not will have to get it reamed

67-3169?

No, that's lathe chatter and it should have been rejected.  Send it back or get a refund. If you do an images search on 67-3169 you will see they are all smooth.
Although the outer surface is the bearing surface I wouldn't trust that one to be on size or a good fit, there are plenty more for sale that look better.

G'day Ant.
*eek* The machinist must have been a kindergarten student.
As long as it's a nice fit on the shaft the "quality" of the bore doesn't matter as the bush is clamped on the shaft. Do not over tighten the nut as it can distort the bush and the ratchet won't fit.

Thank you all for responding!
I thought it wasn’t right! Compared all pictures online, reported it, messaged the seller from evilbay and got a refund.

Ordered another one coming from Canada.

Did not order one from DF as it doesn’t have the spiraling on the outside for oil

We've all been there. Reject straight away is the best plan.

Replacement of replacement arrived today, is smooth on the inside, fits nicely over the main shaft and the kickstart ratchet does not fit over the bush. OD is too great

Gggrrrr

The hunt for one still continues

Even the small main shaft bearing arrived and does not fit over the main shaft. Got that from a well known source

G'day Ant.
Can you get the OD of the bush turned down?
I recall a few years ago I purchased a new ratchet and the bush wouldn't fit. I contacted the supplier and they sent a new bush to suit. I cant remember which part was wrong but they had them in pairs.
Another example of pattern parts not correct and a bugga waiting for the wrong parts to arrive.

Hi All,
There appears to be two different bushes depending on whether a pointed tooth or flat top tooth pinion is fitted *????*
This is what I have found from my experience nothing else *ex*

Still got to find a machine shop to do a few of the needed jobs and when the time comes will have them turn down the bushing.
Still waiting for a NOS 1st gear bushing as I have very little play and will have them ream that too.
