Its a wonder someone hasn't made some aftermarket ones, I also made a triumph style one for the oil tank. The BSA ones are impossible to get undone without chewing them up eventually.

Try an O ring on the tank filler cap. Seals better than the fibre washer.

I think these caps often get chewed up by the use of a screw driver blade to tighten/release them.

When I turned up a new cap I did not have the tools or knowledge to put serrations on the edge so I knurled it. As an afterthought I drilled little holes around the edge at 90° so a small Tommy bar could be used to tighten/undo.
