Tank Badges
« on: 06.10. 2024 19:31 »
Based on the positions of the tapped holes in this A10 tank, can anybody tell me which tank badges would have been fitted ?
Thank you

Thought this would be solved by looking in the Roy Bacon book, but no.  '50,,51,52 are describes as painted parts "either Devon red or black" and all the pictures are black and white *pull hair out*.
Even more annoyingly in the black and white photos some badges look grey and others black with no particular pattern.
Also bikes "built in '51" for the UK market have painted tanks due to the nickle shortage.  I'm assuming yours is export and chromed?
You could put a red one on one side and a black on the other and see how people react, then make both the colour that the majority think is right. (if they even notice *smile*).

If it’s grey in the pictures then its red
If it’s black in the pictures then it’s black

I know it's not original but I couldn't pass up the beautiful big round red Goldie badges. But then again it's on a Lyta tank and with no pretensions towards originality.
'Faithful' yes, but not 'originial'.

I was doing some work on one of my bikes in the summer. I needed to take the tank off so I put it on the garden wall whilst working on the bike. The direct sunlight shattered the Gold Star badge on the nearside. They don't make 'em like they used to !

Oh NO Cheezer! You can't expose them to 'sunlight'... they're for British bikes FFS... You can't expect them to survive sunlight!

I don't think they ever did survive sunlight. Its very noticeable that the bikes in the US all have cracked tank badges and even in the UK I recall they only looked nice for a few years.  Still they were cheap and easy to swap.

Roger here is what the tin badges look like on a tank. This was a bike I built some years ago, not original but my interpretation of what I thought would look good.
