Hi guys, I have a 1952 A10.
Bike has been completely rebuilt and also has a new Amal 276 carb.
I’ve been having problems getting it to start, sometimes it will sometimes it won’t.
It was running a little rich but I think I’ve sorted that.
As an example, I ran it 20 miles yesterday (took a bit of starting from cold), stopped for 45 mins…eventually got it going….20 miles home. Stopped for 5 mins, few kicks it started, put it in garage, wouldn’t start again.
Also just started it from cold, let it run 30 secs with low ish revs, let it cut out…..wouldn’t start again
Now I know, 2/5ths of nothing as far as electrics are concerned, so be gentle with me.
I thought problem was with the fuel mix/carb but now changing my thoughts.
The bike is running a magneto, I noticed the end cap next to the points wasn’t tight as the spring didn’t have much tension so slipped a picked of folded card behind spring to tighten it up.
Would the tightness of this cap make ant difference to the points?
I know nothing about points etc, but willing to listen and learn. Or could it be something else?
Cheers
