Single sided 8" front brake.

My photos are of the A50/A65 forks used for 1966, 1967 and 1968 (single carb models only for 1968)

The pre 1966 were not damper rod type and the 1969/70 were shuttle valve type.

Here's the wheel in question. Seems like it has no ribs as such, just a simple groove to deflect water away. Anyone care to identify it?

1949-63 A, B, M.. N.B. There are 2 versions of wheel type 5; the ‘Gold Star’ version with knockouts in the hub and a loose cam bearing and the standard version without these features, they both have a torque arm, which the 7” does not. The wheels are identical otherwise.

This wheel has had the knockouts errr.. knocked out and it doesn't appear to be later DiY driller job either.
Are you saying the regular B33 or Golden Flash came with this type of hub as standard in some cases?

Below from the 1950 BSA catalogue showing an A10 GF front hub with knock outs.

I had a 1954 A7 swinging arm with 8 inch hub plain with no knockouts.

A June 1955 Gold Star road test in Motor Cycling magazine mentions "this years mods which include cooling fins on the drums and ventilation holes in the back of the drums"

The Gold Star only gets a new hub part number in a June 1955 factory parts bulletin and subsequent parts books which I presume is the finned hub.

Oddly the brake drum in the catalogue pic doesn't have the circle of smaller holes?

Today was the first proper try out for this wheel in the A7, and I'm impressed. It's a nice smooth progressive brake and a big improvement on the old 7".
Later in the year I'll build another wheel with a stainless rim on the recently powder-coated 8" (no knock-outs) H/W hub I got from Bergs, and this alloy-rimmed one will go on the  Goldie.
A good result all round.
