Bergs, I liked your failure report because there was no other option but if could, I would have responded with a sad face!

Nobody likes a failure and now you've witnessed what a pain these one off "small" jobs can be in terms of set up etc. it is small wonder is it that professional engineering shops are generally not interested in getting involved, it really isn't worth it and always takes twice as long as you'd think.  Hours of mucking around then the actual grinding takes about 2 minutes or fails completely...  They can't quote or charge you the full cost because you'd think they were taking the pee but in fact they still mostly lose money on them.

Anyhoo onwards and upwards Bergerman, what an angel your old buddy at the pub must be? Either that or he'd already been on the B&T's before you arrived  *yeah* but hopefully he can get this sorted for you and it'll all end happily.  Hats off to MWAS for giving it a go, too bad it didn't work out for you guys.

Bon cheers , yes as soon as i told my old mate the problem as we talked in the car park he jumped straight in about the bloke who might be able to sort it at his works, i couldn't believe my luck, i was on my way home to see about buying another adaptor. as for engineering shops not wanting the jobs like this i fully understand after the work and time MWAS put into it.  the firm of grinders at sheffield quoted me 100 to 150 pounds just to get a couple of thou out of it , they would have tooled up just for that and never seen another job like it to justify the effort.  *beer*
