1958 A10 header pipes
« on: 23.06. 2023 14:53 »
I have a 1958 A10 engine no.  DA102752. Frame no. FA74796 and have bought some new header pipes  for my bike. A10 1958-1959 part no,s 42-2957 and 42-2959.   However I can’t make them fit, the bracket to the front engine bolt is too short!
What is the difference between these pipes and the pipes for a 1954 - 1957  A10, part no,s  42-2766 and 42-2768.  Should I have bought these pipes instead ?
Have emailed Draganfly but still waiting for a response!

G'day Cactus,  *welcome*
Were the pipes purchased from Draganfly? I can't tell you the difference between the models but I had similar problem with the plunger pipes. Had to manipulate a fair bit. Could you turn up a spacer to fill the gap?
It's a bugger when you get something from the other side of the rock and it don't fit!
Cheers.
Now go over to Introductions and give us your A10 story. From your IP address I see your in WA, we have a few members over there.

For your reference, my ‘58 SA header pipe brackets are 65mm drive side and 70mm timing side, measured on the inside from pipe to bracket.

Easy way to tell plunger pipes from the S/A...the front bracket ends bend down...you could say they "plunge down". S/A are bent up.

A7 and A10 pipes have a different sweep profile because of the lower block height of the A7......But Longstroke A7 pipes are the same as the A10 Plunger.

Goes without saying the quality of all aftermarket products is poor when it comes to fit, the brackets are rarely exactly in the right place. Years ago Armour's at Bournemouth were  a reasonable best of the rest. Dunno if that still holds true.

You asked for the difference between 1958 pipes and the earlier type.
1958 has the pipes bent so that the mufflers are parallel to the ground with the near side pipe having a set beneath the chaincase.
The early type have the mufflers kicking up to rear, no set.

You can see the shape of the pipe in this 1957 road test photo.

Hi Cactus,
The engine and frame numbers you have given are from 1960 , mid-late in year sequence..
I don't know if this affects the pipe part numbers or not without searching the relevant parts books, I'll leave that up to you!!
