oil tank pipe
« on: 27.04. 2023 11:38 »
Am replacing the return pipe in a S/A oil tank.
Question is - does anyone know what size the hole is where oil is ejected into the tank? I presume it's around 3/16" (judging from the oil squirt) but the size must have some effect on the back-pressure needed to supply oil to the rockers. Any actual dimension avail?
Thanks,

G'day RD.
Yes you're correct in the size does matter. From memory (not good these days) I made mine 1/8" as well. Rockers get just enough.
Cheers

After Berg's note I tried a piece of 1/8th welding wire cranked at the end. Fitted perfectly in the holes of the two bikes I have with S/A A10 oil tanks. So 1/8 it is. Thanks guys.

Back in my youth when we all knew better than the BSA engineers some race bikes were using internal oil spray to aid cooling
So of course we had to do the same
Lits of things like winding wire through the holes to block them off.
Net results, lots of smoke & valves sticking from oil running down the stems & burning.
If anything A10's have too much oil supply to the head
A modificaion dome by some of the unit single engine gurus is to enlarge the oil drain holes and reduce the oil feed to the heads
