The things we did
« on: 17.03. 2023 11:33 »
I've got to add that as a  youth selling these bikes, the quality of Triumph bikes improved yr on yr from about 64, by 68 the bonnie was a great bike and the TR6 saints deserved the title given by the plod "stop anything in no time " I delivered 4 of the 40 odd 68 season bikes to Liverpool police in liverpool, 1st one I got lost (honest constable )and only found the correct place by following  a plod Cooper "s" which pulled me over thinking I'd nicked it ,the driver near ***** himself when he found out I wasn't lying ! the other 3 I just enjoyed the ride . despite my love of BSA I can't say the same about the A65's to many warranty claims , I believe they were sorted but still feel the same all these yrs on.

Nice story, but I can say I've never really had a 'pleasant' experience with coppers.  Couple of decent ones, though, I have to admit.  One of the most unusual was when I was delivering newspapers to Aberystwyth through the night.  In the long mountain section, I was pulled by the plod who asked what I was carrying.  When I asked why, they said they'd had complaints of sheep rustling!!  As I was 'White Van Man' with no markings, they just wanted to check. *eek*

Worty, I know what you mean when home in Seaforth liverpool the local nick was where I spent many a not so happy time producing documents for over zealous coppers who didn't understand you could ride a 650 combo on L plates even if it was just a board on the sidecar wheel. In the end I stopped it by using Acton nick in london (you should have seen the coppers face when I asked for that station),I went there every 2 weeks to see my bro at uni ,after the first a sergeant came to our house and wanted to know why I wouldnt produce docs at seaforth " as it took the PC "to much time" when it was out of the county. My old man who was party to all of the time wasting crap that the cops give me and my 5 mates pointed out that on average I was producing docs 2=3 times every week which was way over the top and "to much time " .The cop actually agreed and we called a truce I never rec'd another ticket while I lived in seaforth .The incident with the police bike is even funnier when you consider I was riding it in suited and bootied for work ,no helmet etc so really can't blame the copper for pulling me ,anyway without that I 'd have run out of petrol ,wthe mechanics only put a 1/2 gallon in and kept the rest for themselves !

I was riding the Star Twin in the middle of a convoy of cars in Aberdeen on a mucky winter morning when the whole lot was stopped by the traffic cops. 40 in a 30 limit. Every car was being booked but when they got to me it was "You need to be careful with these old speedometers, they can be a bit inaccurate. Off you go." In my mirror as I rode off I could see them booking the car behind. Despite the freezing temperature, I felt a warm glow.

Edging off topic, I know, but I was on a rally with the lads and we'd been down the pub en masse in Nantwich, Cheshire, which attracted the attention of the local fuzz.  As we headed back, about 7 bikes back, a mate dropped his Z1300 on gravel.  The cops, who were monitoring, jumped on him and started breathalysing from the back up.  Having had a couple of sherbets or so, I told the girl I was giving a lift to to jump on and I took off.  We got back to the rally site and abandoned the bike *whistle* *whistle* *whistle*.  Trouble was, the party was busted by a bunch of party poopers in blue uniforms the day after and I ended up in court for possession of a 'natural remedy for stress' *dunno* *dunno* *whistle* *whistle* *whistle*
