Musky, There's a great little video on the Bovington Tank Museum's website. Its another British engineering marvel and the manufacturers, Hornsby's later became part of Ruston and Hornsby who came up with all sorts of steam tractors and the like. Hornsby's were world leaders in heavy oil engines it says here on Wikipedia, making these a full 8 years before Otto Diesel came up with his own version. I've seen this name on Steam Locos as well.

Yep, never term them "Diesels" as the afficionados don't appreciate it.
Oil engines only.
