Identification of A10 spin-on oil filter
« on: 19.07. 2022 12:00 »
Hi all,

I have recently acquired a 1960 A10 which has a spin-on oil filter conversion kit of some sort, and I'm trying to identify the oil filter which doesn't appear to have any markings on it.

It's a distinctive blue colour and measures approx: Diameter: 70mm, Height: 60mm (pic attached)

I've not removed it yet as I'd like to order the replacement in advance. Maybe when I take it off it will be more obvious.

Any thoughts on what filter this might be or a suitable replacement ?

G'day ifallon.
Both mine use a **153, the ** is the makers mark eg HF153, KN153. Used mostly on Ducati.

Now get over to Intros and give us your journey here.

Thanks - it looks like the *153 is physically a bit bigger all round compared to mine so not sure that would work for me.

Smallest I know of is as fitted to a Honda Firestorm. I use those on my vee twin, especially due to space limitations. Can't give a part no off the top of my head.

I once compiled a list of equivalents to suit the Norton type filter head (below). Availability of them comes and goes.  At the moment the Borg and Beck can be had from ebay sellers - the attraction with this one is that the B&B sticker can be peeled off leaving a plain black filter, instead of having a multi-coloured lump on the bike.

A10 oil filters: (same as fitted to Citroen 2CV & Peugeot 205 & 309) UFI part number (23.105.00) corresponds with;
AC Delco FX0011 (was X4A)
Champion 101
Cooper Z64
Fiaam FT4654 or FT 4847
Fram PH2839, PH2864A
Halfords HOF216
Knecht OC 5 (equivalent to Ducati #065149960 and #090549960)
Mann & H W712/9, W712/11
Motorcraft EFL 47
NAPA: 1352 (1352NAPA and 551352 on the box)
Powertrain FL125
Purflux LS131
Purolator FC 103 or OC 5
Tecafilter Ref OC5
Technocar R12, R72, R434
TJ FB2094
Unipart GFE 201
Ryco Z93,

Smallest I've found is as fitted to Honda Firestorm & Kwakas etc. Mann equivalent is W67/1, AD-Delco PF57 etc etc. About 1/4" shorter than the common car small ones.

ifallon would be happier if they’d left the bloody sticker on his filter!

Any motor factor/car accessory shop can supply a filter to fit. The essential dimensions are the thread and the sealing ring as outlined by hitchmitch.. Length and can diameter are secondary and a suitable size can be selected to suit the space available. Catalogues contain cross references for specs and you can work backwards and also identify brand equivalents, you may even find an online catalogue and do your own search.

The thread is critical. A good few years ago I changed a Vauxhall Astra filter. The model year was when the thread changed from UNC to Metric. Filter fitted fine, but oil pressure blew the filter off. I'd used UNC, but the engine had the later Metric thread. Rasping noise as the threads slid, and a bit of a mess .....

 Swarfy.

Thanks all. Took it off and it turns out it is a bit bigger than I thought so a number of filters should work.
