No spark K2F
« on: 19.03. 2022 14:19 »
Attempted to start my bike this morning it wasn't having it, so I removed the plugs and there was no spark on either cylinder. It was running perfectly when I laid it up for the winter last November. What might be the cause and what should I look for. I disconnect the kill button wire from the magneto and that made no difference. The magneto was fully rebuilt a couple of years ago with an Easycap conversion and due to covid restrictions has done no more than 2 - 300 miles since. Is it possible that that capacitor has failed? If it has would that prevent a spark? I know nothing about mags so I am seeking ideas about how to go from here.

Try cleaning and setting the points of corrosion as a first step.

Well, progress so far. I removed the points plate and couldn't see anything obviously wrong. The progress bit: I don't know how or why, but much to my amazement the sparks were back. Hurrah! However still no go. *sad2* So next on the agenda is to recheck the timing (although I really can't see how that could have changed) but best to leave no stone unturned. Anyway that's all for another day because the kickstart return spring has now failed so until that is replaced everything is at a stand still. By the way I did meter the mag and that checked out OK.
