Everyone ok ? good ! ok , ive just fitted a dynamo belt drive to my 63 flash and new bearings and brushes in the dynamo and i thought well , why not fit a DVR2 regulator while i am at it ..... all went well with the fitting of this checking and rechecking connections and them fitting an inline fuse as recommended in the fitting instructions , started him up and.....Nothing ! so checked all connections again even a fresh earth point and still nothing . the Dynamo is wired correctly and showing a good output as per the specifications . tried the simple checks as per instructions and guess what ? still no output from the regulator ...refitted the old MVR and and everything is ok ! anyone else had this problem ? have i missed something ( though i cant imagine what )  ! i have trawled through all the posts on here and i am beginning to think a faulty DVR2....any ideas / suggestions ? thanks  *smiley4*

I had a similar problem with my SR - it was overcharging with the Wassell regulator, so I fitted a DVR 2 - fitted it -  and got nothing !
After much discussion with Bill (Groily) turned out to be just the dynamo/field wires connected in reverse. - Swapped 'em over and BINGO.

 hi , thanks for that - the dynamo was wired up exactly as it came off , and i am aware that with the Wassel regulator may need this doing but nothing mentioned about the DVR2 ... It may be worth a try though - i am just waiting on the manufacturers opinion before refitting it . Was yours ok with the old MVR on ?

I also thought the same as you - maybe I had a duff DVR2 so I put the Wassell reg. back on and of course ir worked, but still overcharging, so I then tried the new DVR2 on my other SR and it worked perfectly. - that's when I knew there was something wrong on the overcharging SR.

I am no expert.... I am checking a similar issue myself. Is your gen producing power with the correct polarity? Brush reversal amounts to polarity reversal I believe. If your bike is positive earth bridge F and D terminals on the gen with some copper wire ... put your negative meter lead on that bridge and the positive lead to the gen body. Does it produce power? (Don't over rev)

Could be brushes with high resistance....you need the residual magnetism (in field coil) to allow the armature to generate a (small) amount of power for the regulator to (then) feed to the field coil, and start the “self start” . I guess not all regulators are the same and maybe whilst the wassel works, the dvr2 might need a little more power from armature to “self start”?

A test for this is to get the engine running at charging speed, and give a little power to the field coil for a second, if it starts and keeps generating “thars your problem” .... maybe.

thanks for all the possible solutions ., as its working well with the old mechanical regulator ive decided to leave it as it is for the time being and try it on my SR when the top end is back on ,I have received a reply from Dynamo Regulators Ltd who will check it for a tenner plus postage each way but they are pretty convinced it is more than likely down to " dirty " brushes... very reluctant to throw more money away ! cheers , Phil . ps. just wondering if there is any easy way to check it off the bike ?
