Hi guys. I have a 57 Goldflash. Does the plug lead closest to the cylinders from the mag go on the right hand cylinder. She won't start an is spitting back but I haven't touched the timing.

Hi Ewen
It depends how the timing has been set - swap them over and give it another go, you can't do any harm.
Cheers

I you fit an electronic ignition you will get a "wasted spark" because both plugs fire each stroke.
The worst thing that can happen is a back fire through the exhaust
So do as TimK suggests /

Thanks guys. I did a quick check and timing is out. Its been ages since I worked on this bike. I reset the points to 11 thou (was about 15, 16 thou) and I had forgotten how much that alters the timing. Hopefully onto a solution now.

Got the wee mirror and torch out... confirmed that brass contact in slip ring was in line with with the correct lead. Just remembered that obvious thing.... I'm out of practise.
