7 inch TLS lining thickness

Can anyone tell me what the standard brake lining thickness is on a 7 inch twin leader. I decided to replace my brake cable and while the old cable worked the arm was close to the fork leg. The new cable ( the type with the brake light switch in) is nowhere close to working. With all the adjusters fully out the shoes are Just brushing the drum with the lever back to the bars. I have tried all possible adjustment on the rod but no success.
The old cable from memory was made up to the length required so never a standard size. The only way I can see this working is with thicker linings??

Linings should be a thickness whereby they are just clear of the drum with shoes fully retracted. Length of cable etc is sorted afterwards.

Thanks for that, I looked up Villiers engineering, they do a relining to own measurements. so I will get them off today (7 day turnaround) seems very reasonable price. First reline since I bought the bike in 1974 so apart from a few years Hiatus when I fitted roadholder forks and Norton brake, (dont know why I did that!) they deserve new linings.

How much does the brake arm move before it fully contacts the drum? You need to get this down to a minimum (as the poster above says) before rejigging the cable length, but if all the adjusters are wound out before the shoes touch the drum then the cable inner is too long.
Time to break out the soldering iron..

The 7 inch TLS lining is listed as 3/16 inch.
