Could you help me? I read somewhere that a little 2-stroke engine oil can be added to petrol.

Can you confirm this? What is the dosage?

I put a splash of 2 stroke oil in the petrol of my bikes/generator/lawn tractor etc. It lubricates the inlet valve stems plus it leaves an oily residue in the carbs when petrol evaporates off. It also adds a hint of lubrication to the bores on the inlet stroke, so not just burnt off.
The minimum ratio for actually running a 2 stroke on petroil mix has been shown in tests to be 200:1. But as this is just a supplement, a splash is probably ok.

It sounds possible that oil in the petrol could lubricate the carburettor.

Oil in the combustion chamber is, of course, bad news.  Is there benefit to the carb slide and needle jet from a proportion of oil that is small enough to not cause detonation and coking-up?

I have a petrol V8 engined water pump that rarely gets used. I try to start it at least once a year to keep it a runner. When I do I run it for a couple of minutes and then squirt copious amounts of oil down the carb until it's smoking badly - then cut the ignition. Saves taking out plugs etc to mothball it and prevent cyclinder / valve seat corrosion. Pic attached of it working and behind the old Continental Ferguson. In the first pic she's shifting around 600galls/min.

G'day Fellas.
I use castor oil https://tinyurl.com/429jbue2 at 500:1 in just about everything. It does provide valve lubrication, especially those with valve stem seals, as well as upper cylinder lube on the inlet and combustion strokes.
People say they can follow me even if I'm a few minutes in front just by the smell 
The down side is it reduces the octane rating of the fuel (I then add octane booster) and carbon up the piston/comb chamber.

Thinking about it one of my mates used to scoot Redex (remember that) into his carb until the running engine was erupting clouds of white smoke
