amal 389 does not fit a10 plunger 1951

as you can see in the pictures i have some fitting issues. Did anyone solve this problem before? I coulnd find anything with search option.

You need to take the adjuster off and run the cable directly to the carb. Not a great design. Just been to my bike shed to look at my 389 to see if it had a flat top (which would help) but can't find it. Dunno where it could be.

   The 389 carb is the bigger brother of the AMAL Monobloc 376, so not easy..  The smaller 376 will fit, but again it's a tight squeeze, here the top cable adjusters need to be substituted for plain collars as mentioned by RD to avoid the top frame tube. The plunger air filter connection has to be modified or simply discarded. Monobloc throttle adjuster screws can seize in the body, and shear off when you come to adjust the tickover.

 Best to stick with the earlier 276 remote float type for an easy life.

Even a 276 is tight, had to remove everything possible at the cable entry.

Not plunger specific but on A10s you need the alternative carb top without the cable adjusters. The cables are different too they are designed to fit directly into the carb top and adjustment is done with in line cable adjusters. Been there and done that, that's how I know about this I had the same problem. The correct cables are important because they are fitted with a ferrule that sits in the carb top. The alternative top is available from Amal and probably Hitchcocks and Surrey Cycles too. It's still tight but it does give more clearence.

Or fit a nice new Amal Premier. Still a little too tight for the ideal set up but you can keep the carb top adjusters and fit a bell mouth.

I had the same problem as you with this one & found that there is a difference between the s/a head & plunger head on the manifold inlet. manifold on the plunger is straighter than the head on the s/a model, the one on my plunger has a s/a head but I sliced the manifold down to shorten it, this gave me enough clearance for the cables between the carb top & frame although the two studs that hold the carb are at a slight angle. I have seen it where someone had drilled a hole in the frame for the cable to run through but I didn't think this was good practice.

One other alternative is to fit a Ariel Huntmaster head, the only thing with that is you have to change the exhaust pipes, as they are flange fitting on the head.
