Thanks for adding me 😎
« on: 20.11. 2016 18:36 »
Hi all - my first post, hopefully it's in the right place! I'm 64, retired and have just got around to starting on my 'basket case' A10 which has been stored in my garage in several boxes for the last 10 years - I'm guessing this is a familiar tale? I've just split the crankcase, found a seized oil pump and no shims controlling the (huge) end float. I'm sure I'll need a pearls of wisdom over the winter but in the meantime thanks for adding me to the forum and best regards to all.

 *welcome*
Please tell us where you are and more about the bike. If possible upload a picture or two.

I joined this forum when I was just starting to work on my A10 that had been off the road and stored in my various garages over nearly 40 years! You've made a good decision joining this friendly bunch! What the 'trusties' don't know about these machines is not worth knowing.

Hi Greybeard I'm in Falkirk Scotland - the bike was last MOTd in '75. I have a '54 frame No CA74813, I believe the engine is '62 Super Rocket or Rocket Gold Star No DA10R 5978 HC. The head is a standard Golden Flash iron head and the pistons are not high compression so the bike probably has a few tales it could tell. Reg No is VHA 721. I think the rear brake is original QD crinkle half width - the front is a full width type. Carb is a 389 Amal which I believe is correct. Other bits e.g. Chrome mudguards swept back exhausts and reverse cone megas suggest it has served time as a cafe racer. I'll post a couple photos later on.
Ps Musky - you're up early this (tomorrow) morning aren't you? 😎

Mostly up by 5am, check out here with my cuppa. Cheers

Welcome and congratulations on choosing to join this excellent forum.
I keep meaning to visit Falkirk, to see the 'wheel' canal boat lift in operation.
What's your target with the rebuild? Still cafe style?
One of mine has rearset footrests but standard bars, which I find very comfortable.

Hi Terryg
I'm aiming to go back to standard trim - I'm getting past riding with 'down pointy feet' 😊 If you're ever in Falkirk the Kelpies are also worth a look.

A few new members so a little reminder that we have a Forum Tee-shirt can be viewed and purchased here
http://recklesspromotions.uk/product-category/bsaforum/

Also a new item a forum mug, I'm the photographer so apologies for the shots (the bike wraps around the mug  so looks like it's lost a bit of wheel).Paul says postage might be a bit high as they are quite heavy but mail them for prices

Noticed this started way back in 2016. I wonder how new member Hill Crest got on. If he still dips into the Forum, and the registration is original, it is a long way from home.
VHA 721 was the mark issued by  the Smethwick/Bearwood local licencing area, before being later swallowed up by Birmingham. The old Midland Red buses were based in Bearwood, and all carried the HA registration.

Local BSA Dealer was C E Cope & Sons  481-487 Hagley Road Edgbaston. Good chance that's where it came from.

Not far from Falkirk at all - the Kelpies reverberate to the sound of our A10 belting past on the M9 fairly regularly. Ours is SL 6491  - Clackmananshire - so not too far from home these days. Once met a guy who used to own SL6492, another A10. Long gone now I suspect - the bike that is.
