Plastic teardrop tank badge wanted
« on: 18.03. 2020 22:53 »
Does anyone have a spare left hand red/gold plastic teardrop tank badge I can buy?

Mine fell in half on a ride last week and all the normal retailers are either out of stock or asking crazy money.

Cheers

Well there were I wandering around the workshop.

I don't think it's the same as yours though has silver lettering.

Thanks for looking Sav - you're right though, mine has gold BSA/star.

What models used the silver BSA/star tank badge? From recollection the A50s/A65s I had in my youth were gold.

Cheers

That's the badge that was on mine when I bought it, similar to yours the other one fell off. Must be a thing about right hand tank badges! Seems a bit of a grey area tanks and badges on BSA's around 1960, round / teardrop, silver / gold / black.

One piece of advice if you replace them is make sure the new ones are of decent quality and ethanol proof.

The ones I bought from rectoryantiques17 on FleaBay a few years ago were not good quality as you can see after the first time I overfilled the tank a few months later. After I complained to the seller his help was to ban me from his FleaBay shop which remains the case today as I have just checked. The other give-away was the poorly formed lettering, look at the cut-outs on the "B".

Similar with Goldie ones you have to be very careful not to overtighten the centre screw or they crack
All the best - Bill
1961 Flash - stock, reliable, steady, fantastic for shopping
1959 Rocket Gold Flash - blinged and tarted up  would have seizure if taken to  Tesco

After it fell off I remembered that on my A50/65s I used to put a piece of rubber behind the badge to isolate it from the vibration - but I'd forgotten about that trick in the intervening 30 years!

Yes they should have backing rubbers

interesting Sav, I bought a pair of backing rubbers for my 61 Flash, I tried to fit them but gave up although, to be honest, I can't remember why at the moment.
But I can say (with as much 76-year-old brain certainty as can be had) that there were no rubbers fitted to my original 61 Flash that I owned in 1961, wonder if the rubbers were for A50/65

I had some break whilst riding  and  somebody recommended  the backing rubbers,  I think I had to use longer screws to fix them, to my A10 but been on for several years now with no breakages.
Listed for use on  A50/65 models.
1960 Super Rocket, owned since 1966, back on the road 2012 after being laid up for 29yrs.

Hello Tim,
Maybe this would suit.

Thanks fringedweller - it would have been perfect if I hadn't got impatient and bought a pair at twice the price. When they arrive I'll have a spare rh badge though *conf*
