When we weren't on the Guinness back in the day, I'd taken a great liking to 'Old Speckled Hen' - a south England bitter. Absolutely delicious drop.
(But I'm an Aussie lager lover too). Now, I learned a while back that this beer was the favourite of some of the lads at the MG factory over in Abingdon, who, at 'special' lunchtimes would all pile into an old battered MG to 'op darn the pub. The beer they drank became known after the old MG. It was so battered and bogged with body repairs, it was known as 'The Old Speckled 'un'. So while we were thinking of old speckled hens, in fact, we should have been thinking old speckled bodywork!

(Yes I'm sure some ol' codger thought this apocryphal tale up to have a giggle at the (then) kids who would rock up on brand new Super Rockets etc.

I wish I could remember the pub name... it was at Locks Bottom (I kid you not!) near Bromley Kent.

Ahhh, Oohh I'm thirsty!
Could have been the Black Horse or the Whyte Lion (yes that's how they spell it). The Fantail is at the top of the High St but not really a proper pub - more restaurant. I was born in the hospital nearby and lived in Orpington until my late teens.

Cheers Jim, yes, Swarfy pinned it for me, it was the 'Queen', a little further down towards Orpington on the left. There was a row of mock Tudor shops on the left, and on the right, Princes Parade, which was a row of shops with flats above, one of which, my dear ol' mum's, was the scene of much 60's debauchery, (by which I mean plenty of pretty innocent drinking, hilarious times, Thelonious Monk blasting, THE best roasts in England!, the occasional shagged Velocette and B40 out the back).
We never darkened the door of the Fantail up the road, well, maybe only once to check out the new barmaid.
Locks As* we called it.
Apologies for my nostalgic tripping lads.

Thanks, duTch. That's the word, but must be the only one with a double U.....so I tried but gave up as the spell checker flagged up all my efforts as wrong.

G'day fellas.
Pic attached a mate's place down at Bawley Point (20km south of me). Fire only 200 yards from his shed with about 10 BSA's, Trihards and lesser others. Two fellas I know have lost the lot.
Cheers

Jeez Musky - stay safe mate. I will stop complaining about the six weeks of daily rain here in the UK.

I know of a few that have lost everything.
Please send all that Pommie weather down here. We've only had 1/4 of our average rainfall here on the coast, some parts inland haven't seen any for years!
duTch, is that the Logan fire? My sister lives at Beenleigh. Better ring her.
Cheers

Mate - they're all over the shop- listening to the wireless they give new warnings constantly.....there was at least one or two at Beenleigh the other day, also at Logan Village, the Il -Bogan area and a couple around Ippy(The Switch) somewhere and out around T-bah.... when I heard about one that flared up at Cooloolabin the other day caught my attention, that's only 10 or 15 k's from where I have some gear stashed in a shed at my ex's but eucalypt forest all in between.....definite smell of smoke in the air even in the CBD of Brizzo got close to 40˚ the last couple of days......some of that pommie rain might be handy- c'mon guys send us over a coupla buckets   I really enjoyed the wet ride back to the youngsters last week- only ~20ks but good

 Better call yea sista.......
