Gearbox clutch cable attachment

Hi, does anyone know how or why BSA made some gearboxes with a slotted screwed hole on the casting top ear for the clutch cable and some boxes with a plain through hole and cable attachment by a nut either side of the gearbox top ear. I can reason why they did the slot and thread... for easy attachment of the cable and adjustment...can't see why they made gearboxes with both.....thanks.

the boxes with plain holes were for a ferrule to insert into the plain hole with cable adjustment at the handle bar lever, the threaded gearboxes didn't have a cable adjuster at the handle bar lever when new --- me thinks

Cost cutting! One less process of threading the hole.

The cover with the plain hole was introduced for the 1960 season twins when the cable adjuster was moved to the handlebar end.

And cost of cutting the slot *work*, otherwise all the above, which been discussed a few times before but I can't see any reason to not have adjusters at each end- apart from counting rivets *conf2*.... I have the early version box and is good for primary adjustment , but the lever end is good for fine tuning on the go-  which is not often necessary but handy when needed
Started building in about 1977/8 a on average '52 A10 -built from bits 'n pieces never resto intended -maybe 'personalised'
Have a '74 850T Moto Guzzi since '92-best thing I ever bought doesn't need a kickstart 'cos it bump starts sooooooooo(mostly) easy
