Just about to go up the wooden hill to bedfordshire when I remembered that box of gearbox bits! I've just gone to the shed in my slippers to pull the box out and I've left it somewhere obvious so I cannot forget it tomorrow.

Thanks Greybeard
I can still use all three cog part numbers for the spare box I am building if they are good.
Regards.

Here is the box of bits, (from my 1955 Plunger machine) that the gearbox repairman handed back to me.

The worn Layshaft and blind bush are the reason I had to have the box serviced, but I guess the engineer thought the other bits were bad also; they look serviceable to me. The gearbox had been quiet until a sudden grinding noise caused the service. It would sometimes baulk at changing gear. You'd have to decide whether you think any of the parts are usable.

If they are for your own machine you can have them free; however if you are charging a customer for this work I would like to be paid something.
What does the forum think any usable items might be worth?

Thanks very much for the photos and the offer!

Ideally I'd like to sort  through them, comparing item by item with what I've got and retaining the better of the two in each pair.

I am truly grateful for your offer to give me the parts for my own machine but they are for Josef's machine. Does that qualify? If not, please let me know how much you would need.

Thanks again,
Steve

Steve, is Josef paying you for the work?

Where are you located?

He's not paying my labour, I'm doing it out of friendship. He was very helpful to us many years ago when we were settling in Germany close to where he lives.

I live near Bath.

It's good practice to keep "wearing pairs" together if possible. Gearboxes (not necessarily BSA A10) tend to whine like banshees if odd parts are used.

OK, if it's for love then you can have the gears free. Are you happy to pay postage to Bath? If so, send me your address and a contact number for the courier.
