Hi all
I’ve been rebuilding a ’55 Golden Flash for the last 6 months or so. Bought as a non-running but largely complete/original bike (minus all cables, loom, rubbers, oil pipes etc). All tin-ware and frame complete with amazing (I think) paintwork untouched from the day it left the factory and that is how it will remain, for now at least. The bike was odd - it had clearly been taken totally to bits, then quite carefully put back together – virtually every nut and bolt was there but none much more than finger tight.
Mechanically I have renewed/serviced everything – motor was absolutely worn out with bores and big ends re-machined to the max and worn beyond allowed tolerance, and a totally shot timing side bush, so a major job done there inc. end-feed conversion.
I’m nearly there now with huge thanks to the immense amount of information on this forum – haven’t registered ‘till now because I have found answers to all queries in previous posts – very helpful indeed. Currently just grappling with misalignment of primary sprockets due to a new adaptor for 4 spring clutch (awaiting shims from Draganfly). Looking forward to some better weather and getting out - I’m in Edinburgh, Scotland – any other BSA junkies up here? Once initial gremlins are ironed out (bound to be something), planning a trip to the Yorkshire Dales next month to run her in…
Only thing I’ve not dived into much is the gearbox – replaced the main seal and it seems to behave itself on the bench so will just give it a whirl.
I’m after some silencers with patina to match bike – will post in wanted page, other than that I think I pretty well have everything needed to finish the job.
Cheers for now, Nick
