A10 Gearbox
« on: 15.02. 2018 15:07 »
Hi All. So I bought my A10 as a bag of bits. Wow I know not a good idea but I went and did it anyway. Well the build is going OK but I have a problem with the gearbox which I have completely re built, all new bushes etc. The problem I’m having is I cannot seem to select 4th gear. It all seems to be working OK on my bench except this. I have checked the cam plate is in the correct position is the selectors to go up and down the gears ( the two spots lign up) but I just can’t get 4th. Does anyone have any idea what I’ve done wrong?? Many Thanks. Barny

This is not uncommon. How are you doing your gear selection check? You may have more of a result if you revolve the output shaft while selecting gears.

The dot on the selector pawl is supposed to line up with it's counter part in neutral but it is sometimes necessary to move it one notch  one way or the other.
Check the spring hasn't lost a leg.
And I had this problem and solved it by adding another gasket (damn can't remember if it was the outer or inner cover ), not sure at all as to why this worked but it did and is stilling doing so
All the best - Bill

G'day barny- I'm not sure it would affect 4th gaer selection, but is the thrust washer behind layshaft first ('H') gear in the right way ?
Started building in about 1977/8 a on average '52 A10 -built from bits 'n pieces never resto intended -maybe 'personalised'
