PTFE tape is the obvious solution isn't it? It's designed for sealing threads

Yep, PTFE tape every time. Quick and no mess, what's not to like?

Always PTFE tape. Seal it with a loctite can make removal difficult and too much force shoud be avoided because of the thin metal of the tank.

Never used ptfe, but it obviously works well. If using loctite, right type and right amount.

About the 243, it's a soft one, needs just a small drop or two on parts of threads to secure and stop leak, & will unscrew without any real force.

Got 3 bottles of Loctite for different use, green (hard), red (medium), blue (soft).

there's a yellow version of PTFE tape for gas fittings. I got to thinking it was more resilient to solvents (petrol) and have used that

Also use a Dowty seal washer in tap to tank joint.

Going to try this Petro Tape.

Looks, smells and feels like PTFE tape but its thicker ( 3 mil ) and, according to the corporate jabberwocky, it's made from "virgin PTFE"

I wonder how the more sexually experienced tape performs ?

I see you have one of them new fangled Wireless sets there.
This is a picture of the radio I grew up with. Loved listening to this in the 1950's before we had a TV.

I've put a modern amplifier inside the case and added a Bluetooth dongle so I can send audio files to it. It's great to send a recording of say 'Hancocks Half Hour' to the radio.

Petro Tape seems to be sealing good

and yes Greybeard I trawl the megahertz with my trusty Philco shortwave radio and Grundig long wave radio.
Drives the old trout nuts as I listen to static aunty beebs shipping forecast.
