gearbox mainshaft end float.

1949 plunger a/7 gearbox end float seems excessive . Comments please

Welcome to the forum *smile*
There should be zero endfloat on the gearbox mainshaft
The shaft is locked in position by the bearing, kickstart ratchet bush and nut on the righthand end
Endfloat could be a loose nut or a bad bush or bearing
You can see whats going on by looking through the oval inspection cover by the kickstart

With a lot of older bikes the lip that retains the left side bearing gives way due to relentless pounding with big hammers to remove the clutch.
Found that out the heard way, then went through 3 or 4 cases to find a good one.
