Hi guys,

I finally got all the bits and pieces necessary to put my subject carb on my 57 RR.  I have it running fairly well, but I'm not clear on how to properly employ the "air valve." I have it cabled to a lever on my right side handlebar, but what is/was the original intent on adjusting it underway?  I'm guessing to lean/richen the mixture as necessary, but I have to admit I'm not good enough on that to make small adjustments that would probably be beneficial. Also, when heated up the idle is too fast, even with the slide all the way down.  The slide does have some wear, but I'm not sure where the number is on it to see if I even have the correct slide (#6?). I have the needle in the #3 slot from the top to compensate for wear (should be #4). Jet and needle are correctly sized (340 & 109).

Hi, I have run a T10TT on my bullet 350 for 40 yrs , usually run with air slide fully open. Start with it closed and open gradually as motor warms. I also had problems initially with slow running which were cured by a bigger cut away on main slide.I  Don't think the tt is noted for a good tickover

I should have also added  that the mixture adjustment  works in the opposite  way to the usual Amal. Screwing in weakens the mixture

I thought the TT carbs were designed not to idle, which is why, at race meets, riders on the start line are continually blipping the throttle to keep it going.  For safety reasons, if the rider is separated from the bike, the engine cuts out. Anyone else heard this?

Could be true, there is no idler screw. I just keep the slide off the stop with the throttle  cable adjuster. Saves blipping when on the road
